Asahikawa commands fine views of the Daisetsuzan Mountains. In previous times, indigenous people revered these mountains, calling them Nutakukamushuppe (“where the gods dance”), and they handed down various traditions inspired by the mountains.
I, too, am inspired by them when I make ceramics with motifs of Hokkaido’s natural splendor and the cycle of its seasons, such as motifs of snow crystals, ice floes, lavenders, the morning haze and the Daisetsuzan Mountains.
Every time I take one of my works out of the kiln, I hope to please pottery-lovers.
